This year’s Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo saw more than 397,000 attendees who generated about $115 million in direct expenditures to the economy, according to a report presented at Fort Worth City Council’s May 17 briefing.

People spent an average of 3.9 days at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, generating more than 1.55 million visitor days, according to a report prepared by Highland Market Research LLC. The total visitor days this year is a 4.8% increase compared with the 2017 event, according to the report.

“2022 was an amazing year for the Fort Worth’s largest and oldest public event,” said Brad Barnes, president and general manager of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

He discussed the data generated from this year’s event with Fort Worth City Council. Projections from the report are based on a survey of 200 attendees selected randomly during the 23-day event that ran from Jan. 14-Feb. 5.

About 83% of respondents live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, and 13% come from other parts of Texas. The remaining 4% of visitors are out-of-state or international visitors, the survey showed.

The stock show had more than 29,000 livestock entries and 14 livestock auctions this year with gross receipts totaling about $10 million, Barnes reported.

The annual event also issued 215,804 tickets for 25 rodeo performances, according to the report. The 2022 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo also logged 8,682 tickets for the Auditorium Concert Series, which included performances by Clint Black and Jeff Foxworthy.

Barnes told the council that the stock show’s mission is twofold: to provide educational support as well as maintenance and improvements to the Will Rogers Memorial Center.

“Since 1985, the stock show has awarded more than $100 million in contributions, educational grants, scholarships and auction proceeds benefiting the youth of Texas,” Barnes said.

The event has also spent more than $73 million, adjusted for inflation, on capital improvements at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, which has been the event’s home base since 1944, he said.
