Last month, we let you know that the Fort Worth Botanic Garden was embarking on the creation of a 20-year master plan + wanted your input. Some of the proposed Master Plan priorities include:
- Sustainable buildings and resilient landscapes.
- A shared mission and vision that embraces the strengths of both parent institutions.
- A design concept that celebrates the history of the institutions.
- A program that improves guest experience and growth in generated revenue.
So far, there have been three public feedback sessions + two were canceled because of inclement weather. While two additional sessions have been added, some major renovations to the garden are already set to begin this year. Here’s what we know.
🌿 Old Garden Road
This vehicular roadway will be converted into a 20-foot-wide pedestrian walkway. The renovations are estimated to cost $1.3 million + will include the addition of native and ornamental plants, landscape boulders, benches, and custom lighting inspired by the traditional WPA-era architecture of older sections of the Garden.
🌕 Full Moon Bridge
Located in the Japanese Garden, this bridge is one of the most recognized features of the Garden. Renovations will improve and reinforce the structure’s foundation + the bridge will be fully replaced with a new version utilizing traditional Japanese joinery and weatherization techniques.
🫖 Tea House
The Tea House in the Japanese Garden will receive major improvements including, the addition of a tokonoma — a recessed space that typically houses ceremonial scrolls, floral arrangements, and art — and improved lighting. Traditional Japanese stucco will also be applied to the inside and outside walls of the Tea House.
🌹 Rose Ramp Shelter House
The feature will see renovations to the trellises + the surrounding retaining walls will be stabilized.
